Matt Cherniss is the head of programming and domestic development at Apple TV+, overseeing series development and current shows for the streamer, reporting to Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht.[1] In this role, he has launched acclaimed series including the Emmy, SAG, and Critics' Choice Award-winning "Ted Lasso"; "The Morning Show"; the 14-time Emmy-nominated "Severance"; Emmy-nominated "Shrinking"; "Silo"; "Foundation"; and "The Last Thing He Told Me," starring Jennifer Garner.[1] Before joining Apple in 2017 as head of domestic development, Cherniss served as president and general manager of WGN America and Tribune Studios from March 2013 until stepping down in 2017, following Tribune Media's acquisition.[2][4] Prior to that, he was senior vice president of production at Warner Bros., where he worked on films such as "300: Rise of an Empire."[1][3] Earlier in his career, Cherniss held the position of executive vice president in programming at Fox Broadcasting Company.[1] His film production background has been praised by industry insiders, with a top TV agent describing him as one of the "smartest execs in town" for facilitating crossovers between filmmakers and television series.[1] Cherniss's leadership at Apple TV+ continues to drive the platform's expansion in premium scripted content, positioning him as a key figure in streaming amid growing competition.[1]
